Biography

Jay Battle is a Canadian/British sculptor producing scupture in stone, bronze, iron and pigmented resins.

Included in his figurative work are the series of new statues he sculpted for the West Front of Salisbury Cathedral which were created between 1998 and 2008. These figures are the largest set of statues from one sculptor to be added to the cathedral's West Front since James Redfern in the 19th century.

Most of his work incorporates themes of containment, separation or imposed boundaries, and illustrates a level of control over natural materials.
The main aesthetic is the continuity of line. This may be represented in the overall shape of the work or in the details of the imposed structure or impressions he applies to it.

Jay is an associate of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.
