Biography
Biography
Time spent drawing and sculpting the subjects that surrounded her proved to be good practice, going on to achieve a first class honours degree in figurative sculpture from the University of Arts in London.
On graduating she was taken on as a resident artist at a bronze foundry in Hampshire where she discovered a love for bronze and a full understanding of the processes involved in working with this material. Forging an understanding of the medium she loved so much and the skill required by the craftspeople who worked with it gave Sophie a deep respect and appreciation of the lost-wax process.
While her understanding of the foundry process sets her aside from her peers, it is Sophie's first love, sculpting which brings the bronze or silver medium to life. Whether capturing the fragile stillness of a kingfisher or the tense vibrancy of boxing hares, each one is presented with an anatomical understanding, yet with a vivacity that is so difficult to encapsulate.
Sophie is lucky to be influenced both by the farm of her childhood and the beautiful countryside which surrounds her studio in Hampshire. The abundant wildlife gives Sophie a fresh new source of inspiration day after day and she is now able to devote her time to sculpting and recreating the animals she encounter.
Sophie's first body of work was exhibited in 2011 yet some of her bronzes are already nearing the end of edition. During this time Sophie has had a number of large and small commissions and will always work with her client to produce sculptures which capture their shared vision.
An incredible eye for the nuances of her material and an extraordinary skill for patination is made clear by a highly collectable body of work for someone who is so young.
