The Benefits of ARTglass

These are called original prints as Guy creates each print in several stages involving the techniques of etching, aquatint, screen print and lithography, making each one in the edition differ slightly. Not only is it usual for the image to differ in tone and colour from print to print but the paper border may also display slight scuffs, dents and scratches naturally associated with these traditional hand made processes.

Each print is individually signed and numbered by Guy and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.

The framed print is float mounted then framed in a hand finished stained black moulding with a white painted spacer. The spacer is added to separate the print from the glass. Supplied strung and ready to hang.

WHAT IS ARTGLASS?

Standard picture framing glass is called float glass. This glass is used by the majority of picture framers and is perfectly acceptable for use when framing most limited edition prints but it does cause reflection and impurities in the glass cause the framed image to appear duller than intended.

To overcome these compromises we offer all our limited editions with the option of been fitted with a speciality glass called ARTglass designed to reduce reflection and improve clarity.
Unlike 'non-reflective' glass which is etched to reduce reflection but has a cloudy appearance as a result, ARTglass is coated with a high-tech film, reducing reflection whilst adding clarity.
The example shown here is an actual scan of a print framed with ARTglass in the left half of the frame and standard glass in the right half. This image has not been altered or enhanced in any way and clearly shows how ARTglass improves the clarity and vibrancy of the print. From certain viewing angles it appears that the glass is invisible.

WHAT IS HAND FINISHED FRAMING?

Hand finished frames give a unique character to a print as an almost infinite combination of profiles, finishes and colours are possible.

Standard framing involves cutting and joining pre-finished mouldings to make the frame.

Hand finished framing requires a skilled craftsman who will first select a suitable frame profile which is cut and joined to make a bare wood frame.  The frame is then finished using a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques and materials.  Depending on the finish chosen a frame may take many days to complete as component layers are built up to achieve the desired result.

The result is a completely bespoke frame made to uniquely complement the original painting.  To this end, no two hand finished frames are ever exactly the same.

DIMENSIONS

All dimensions are Height x Width and are approximate.  The image size will be correct within a tolerance but the finished size is subject to change as the paper size used for each individually made print may be very different from that shown here.

Biography

Guy was born in 1987 in Norfolk, United Kingdom. Today, he is a successful international artist, with work exhibited in Dubai, New York and London and in private collections in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Guy discovered his passion for print making during a trip to the Paris École Nationale Supérieure Des Beaux-Arts in 2010, whilst studying at Central Saint Martins School of Art, when he became particularly fascinated with the traditional etching process. Following his graduation from Central Saint Martins School of Art in 2011, he moved back to Norfolk for 18 months, from where he still finds his inspiration.

In 2012 Guy trained as an assistant print maker under Mary Dalton and Stanley Jones at Curwen Studios in Cambridge, where he had to learn at a fast clip how to master other types of print making. In 2013 and 2014 he had one of his etchings selected to be exhibited in the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.

An accomplished print maker, Guy Allen presents this remarkable collection of original prints with an emphasis on equine, wildlife and the natural world. To create his pieces he has married the traditional technique of etching with a timeless subject matter and print-making process for a more contemporary twist. The stages involved in creating these original prints include etching, aquatint, screen print and lithography.
