Bio : Jo Quigley

Born in 1969, Jo trained at Winchester School of Art and Kingston University, graduating in 1996 with an MA in Fine Art. Having taught art for over a decade Jo now concentrates on painting full time, whilst continuing to demonstrate her skills to art societies and painting groups across the South East. Jo also uses her experience as a tutor to write about painting, and has recently had several articles published in The Artist magazine.
Jo has a particular passion for painting the city and its people and takes full advantage of living close to a big city, taking frequent trips to London where she is able to observe and photograph people going about their daily lives. Influenced by artists such as Pissarro, Hopper and Lowry, Jo’s work encourages the viewer to take a second look and get involved in the many characters and the stories they tell. Jo’s images are bright and contemporary and whilst she works in a variety of media she particularly enjoys acrylic for its speed and flexibility.
Jo has exhibited all around the UK and has sold work both nationally and internationally. She has won several prizes and in recent years has been shortlisted for several major prizes including BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year (2011), Surrey Artist of the Year (2011), and Artist and Illustrators artist of the Year (2013 and 2014).
