Artist Q&A with Becky Mair

Artist Q&A with Becky Mair

Q1. Who or what has most influenced your artistic journey?

George Stubbs, the equestrian artist: his attention to detail, and his study of anatomy is truly amazing. I love spending time studying his work. However, after studying Jackson Pollock at art college and understanding his energy and the flow of the pigment in the paint, I used Pollock's technique, and his process to get a representational image of my subject.

Q2. Tell us about your favourite medium

I really enjoy working with oil and watercolour, however neither lend themselves to my technique of painting, so I work mainly in Acrylic.

Q3. Do you have a favourite piece of art?

George Stubbs, Whistlejacket 1762, commissioned by Lord Rockingham.

Q4. What’s the best piece of artistic advice you have been given?

Use your time well, experiment.

Q5. What is the biggest challenge of being an artist?

Having the freedom to paint, what you like.
