Westminster from the London Eye

Limited to 95 fine art limited edition prints + 10 artist proofs, 'Westminster from the London Eye' is available either block mounted, or block mounted and framed. Please make sure you select the format you require using the drop down list above.

The main edition of 95 prints is printed on 450gsm fine art canvas. This is then bonded to 3.5mm board and varnished to replicate the look and feel of the original painting. This is called block mounting. Each print is individually signed and numbered by Alena and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.

The framed print is framed in a 7cm wide black/pewter moulding with reddish highlights and a painted off-white slip below. As the canvas is varnished, this print is not glazed. Supplied strung and ready to hang. 

ARTIST'S PROOF

Limited to just 10 prints, the Artist's Proof is a stunning large scale stretched canvas print.

Printed on 400gsm fine art canvas, each print is individually signed 'AP' and numbered by Alena and supplied with a certificate of authenticity. The print is finished with a dark grey edge, fitted to a 3.4cm deep tulip wood stretcher and strung and ready to hang.

The Artist's Proof is also available in a warm black frame with an off-white slip.

WHAT IS AN ARTIST'S PROOF?

Traditionally an artist's proof was a print made by the artist during the print-making process in order to understand the progress of the printing plate the artist was working on.  In this respect it was a 'work in progress' print.

With the development of modern printing techniques the term is now used to refer to a number of finished prints that are available in addition to the main limited edition, and are reproduced to the same exact high quality.  The number of artist proofs should not exceed 10% of the size of the main limited edition.  The edition size of 'Westminster from the London Eye' is 95 prints so there are just 10 artist proofs available.

Using a mix of acrylic paints and inks, Alena uses a variety of both conventional and unconventional tools to express different ideas - enjoying the process of taking mundane urban elements and capturing their beauty in vibrant and atmospheric compositions.

She draws her inspiration from walks in European cities, particularly London, come rain or shine - photographing the fleeting moments of a scene and its atmosphere as it changes with the seasons and time of day. Alena loves photography and painting equally stating that, for her, the two are inseparable.

She says “I love depicting city scenes that combine architecture and iconic buildings with the life that goes on around them, the traffic and the passers-by and how these scenes change with varying light and weather. I am fascinated by the drama and life that rain and evening lights bring into the picture as much as I love the stillness and serenity of snow. I am compelled to paint the long shadows printed on the ground by the afternoon sun or the morning fog as it softens the edges and desaturates colours.

Double-deckers and black cabs of London, red trams and terracotta roofs of Prague, white cobbles and yellow trams of Lisbon, majestic domes and pillars of Rome, Paris bikes and cafés, canals of Venice – undoubtedly cliché, but that’s where my mind travels when I pick up a brush!”
