WHAT IS HAND FINISHED FRAMING?

Hand finished frames give a unique character to an original painting as an almost infinite combination of profiles, finishes and colours are possible.

Standard framing involves cutting and joining pre-finished mouldings to make the frame.

Hand finished framing requires a skilled craftsman who will first select a suitable frame profile which is cut and joined to make a bare wood frame.  The frame is then finished using a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques and materials.  Depending on the finish chosen a frame may take many days to complete as component layers are built up to achieve the desired result.

Clive works directly with our hand-finished framers resulting in a completely bespoke frame made to uniquely complement the original painting.  To this end, no two hand finished frames are ever exactly the same.

For 'Charlie Fox' Clive has chosen an off-white double mount and a 5.7cm wide warm black frame with brown highlights and a distressed silver sight edge.

WHAT IS ARTGLASS?

Standard picture framing glass is called float glass.  To reduce reflection we glaze the original artwork with ARTglass.

Unlike 'non-reflective' glass which is etched to reduce reflection but has a cloudy appearance as a result, ARTglass is coated with a high-tech film on both sides, reducing reflection whilst remaining crystal clear.  It is considered the Rolls Royce of reflection reducing picture framing glass.

BIOGRAPHY

South Coast based Clive Meredith has been a professional artist since 1993 and specialises in detailed portrayals of wildlife from Britain and abroad. Clive’s initial interest in wildlife and the countryside was fostered in his early years whilst living on a dairy farm, spending hours outside in the Shropshire countryside birdwatching and observing wildlife.

Working in both graphite pencil and oils, observation is vital to Clive’s working practice. Each drawing reveals meticulous attention to detail, achievable only by hours spent in the field observing and photographing subjects in their natural habitat. As a result Clive has become renowned for the stunning realism of his images and an incredibly assured ability to inject real life and character into his works.

Recent accolades have included a ‘highly commended’ award for works at the Mall Galleries in London, exhibited as part of the prestigious DSWF Wildlife Artist of the Year competition. Clive was also named ‘Wildlife Artist of the Year 2010’ by Wildscape Magazine after winning their annual competition with ‘The Egret Pool’.

His work has been featured in many publications including Artists & Illustrators Magazine. In 2010 his work was chosen to appear in a new book ‘Drawing and Painting Birds’ by author and artist Tim Wootton alongside the works of bird art luminaries such as Tunnicliffe, Bateman and Busby. Clive is a member of Marwell International Wildlife Art Society and the RSPB.

With a large collector base both for his original artworks and limited edition prints, Clive’s work can be found in galleries and homes throughout the UK and Worldwide
