Claire Norrington

Claire Norrington is one of the most talented artists of her generation, her bronze sculptures exude a powerful quality of strength and dynamism that is rarely seen.

Claire's sculptures always follow a series of drawings from life. "By drawing from life the work retains it's vitality and sense of movement and by executing multiple sketches of the same creature, I try to build up a 'library' of knowledge in my head which can be recalled later in the studio. I see different things every time I look at an owl, hare or horse. The combinations of shape, light, colour and texture seem infinite."

Claire Norrington models her sculptures using materials such as wood, string and cardboard. A continuous process of construction, de-construction, shaping and re-shaping takes place before the model is to be cast in bronze. Norrington was the youngest artist to be elected to the Royal society of British Sculptors. She has been published by The Arts Council of Great Britain and was featured in "Modern British Sculpture" by Guy Portelli, chronicling the prominent and rising artists of the 20th/21st Century.
