Archibald Thorburn

A leading watercolourist of his day, Archibald Thorburn (1860-1935) created minutely detailed paintings of birds, animals and flowers, though it is for his studies of game birds that he is best remembered. In addition to exhibiting at the Royal Academy at the age of 20, Thorburn achieved success as an illustrator of books. As a keen conservationist he was elected Vice President of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in recognition of his services on behalf of bird preservation.

Archilbald Thorburn's work is available as hand-coloured prints. Transparent washes of watercolour are added by hand to black and white prints.
